Health and Disability
There is a wide range of administrative data collected by a number of Government departments that can potentially be used for health and disability focused research.
The NHS Information Centre records data on hospital admissions, outpatients and accident and emergencies. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) records welfare payments made to individuals who are unable to work because of ill health or need extra care, for example Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Employment Support Allowance. The Identity and Passport Service records births and deaths. This information is shared with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) who then make the data available to the research community. The Ministry of Justice collects Coroner information.
Access arrangements to these datasets varies so please read the detailed dataset information (where available) on this website.
