Environment
There are few nationally available environmental administrative datasets. Most of the comprehensive environmental datasets available in the UK are derived from surveillance systems or through primary data collection. There are also useful modelled datasets, such as the air emissions and quality datasets provided by Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. The administrative data that is available tends to be focused on issues of land use. For example, the National Land Use Database (NLUD) collects information on, and enables identification of previously developed or ‘brownfield’ land.
Data on air, water and land quality are dispersed across the UK in databases and collections maintained by many different government departments and agencies, authorities, university institutions, and private companies. The United Kingdom Environmental Data Index (UKEDI) provides a searchable directory of information about these datasets and how to gain access to them.
At present the ADLS has limited detailed information on environmental administrative datasets. Please keep checking back and you may also wish to receive notification by registering with us for these information updates.
