The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is the UK Government department for communities and local government in England. It was established in May 2006 and is the successor to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The aim of the department is to foster prosperous and cohesive communities, offering a safe, healthy and sustainable environment for all by decentralising power as far as possible, meeting people’s housing aspirations, putting communities in charge of planning, increasing accountability and letting people see how their money is being spent.
The Department for Communities and Local Government sets policy on supporting local government, communities and neighbourhoods, regeneration, housing, planning, building, the environment and fire.
